Cinque

Cinque started as the snow iBook that replaced Trinity. When my new boss at Apple let me go, I had to let that machine go too. Damn shame since they were up for updating and my dad really could use an improvement in speed and the addition of FireWire.... Anyway, Cinque is now my Windows box.

I got the SGI 320 along with an SGI 1600SW 17.3" widescreen LCD. I only paid about $50 for the computer beyond the display, and most of that was extra shipping charges. It's a single P3 450 with 128 MB of RAM and a 10 GB 10k RPM Cheetah drive. I've got a second processor for it, but need a plug-in voltage controller to make use of it. I'm keeping an eye out on Ebay for that part. 128MB is pretty sad, but memory upgrades are pretty pricey for the proprietary SGI architecture.

The primary use of the computer right now is looking good: it's the only thing I can run the 1600SW off of since I don't have a Multilink Adaptor or a LVDS-capable video card for the G4. Aside from that, it runs Win2k, Opera, Trillian and Garmin MapSource. MapSource runs *massively* faster on a real PC than it does in Virtual PC - that alone justifies keeping the PC around. Trillian is a far nicer chat client than anythign I've found for the Mac OS, too.
