How-Tos

Solid Axle Swap - Find more information in my Pirate4x4 thread covering the swap, and take a look at my photos from the project.

Gearing improvement - I haven't started this project yet, but I'm getting a mated Ford T18 manual trans and NP205 transfer case Memorial Day weekend and plan to replace my stock NV231DHD transfer case with them. Expect a full writeup at some point and progress pictures along the way.

A-Pillar gauge pod install - more details will be added at a later date, but for now you can get some info here: $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+pillar+gauges" target="_blank">A-Pillar gauge pod install.

Brakes and seals - more details will be added at a later date, but for now you can get some general info here: $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+brakes" target="_blank">brakes and seals - a single picture of my borked rear shoes, and photos from my front brakes and RF axle seal install. I was also going to attempt my input shaft seal on my front diff but not without a lift.

Misc installs - These should be separated, and eventually will be. more details will also be added, but for now you can get some info here: $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+misc+projects" target="_blank">Various small installs - fog light removal, fire extinguisher, etc.

Permacool dual oil filter relocation kit - I'll write this up when next I have got two minutes to rub together.

Power Distribution - more details will be added at a later date, but for now you can get some mildly detailed pictures from this album: $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+misc+projects" target="_blank">power distribution behind my dash.

Power Quarter Windows - This project isn't yet finished, and there is also a general lack of commentary on the photos. this will of course eventually be remedied, but for now: $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+windows" target="_blank">pictures of my power quarter window install.

Rancho 9000 shocks w/ remote - more details will be added at a later date, but for now you can get some info here: $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+rancho" target="_blank">Rancho shock and remote install.

Roadmaster Active Suspension - this install couldn't have been easier. The included directions were okay, and it was really stupid simple to begin with. I was short a 3/8" allen in 3/8" drive, so I racheted the system tight from the back end with the lock nuts on the rod end rather than the screws on the spring end as is intended (which, of course, I held with a normal 3/8" allen). That made tightening a bit more of a pain than it otherwise would have been, but it still was pretty easy. I haven't beaten the truck since installation, but first impressions are a much firmer ride in the rear (setting preference on my Ranchos went from 8 to 3) and much more cornering stability, just as advertised. I'm impressed. $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+roadmaster" target="_blank">There are a very few install pictures here.

TPS replacement - it's on the left of the throttlebody. two screws and it's out. scraped off the seating surface, throw on some gasket niceness, put the screws back in and you're done. 5 minutes to non-RPM surging cruise control.

TransGo Install - The video was outdated, but wonderfully done. The updated printed directions were a bit on the skimpy side. Without the video I'd have been helpless in removing or replacing the valve body, and it walked me through quite a bit of what the paper directions told me to do. As for the temp sender, if you're installing one, a drain plug thing from Summit Racing is the way to go. It would have gone far more smoothly had it not been for two occurances, however. The first place I'd planned to put it, and followed through drilling, was right under a pan bolt. oops. I had two drain plugs, so I figured I'd use one to hold the sensor and one to patch that hole (I'd grind it down for clearance with my New Toy after instalation). However, I snapped that plug - remember, folks, it's a hollow half inch bolt. Having nothing else to patch it with, I found a small screw and nut, and drilled holes in two nickels. I JB welded them to each side of the pan and screwed through them. Hope the JB Weld seals against what I'll guess is epoxy paint - if not, I should only have a slow leak until I can get a new pan or visit a welding shop. My hope is that in 5 or 10 years when my tranny goes, I'll notice those nickels as I'm pulling it and laugh. As of two months later, it's the sensor bung with the slow leak. I shoulda JB'd that, too =)

Transfer Case rebuild - While this wasn't exactly a rebuild, but more of a parts swap, I still decided that someone other than myself might like to see what's involved in the guts of an NP-231. There isn't any commentary on the photos yet, but as with so many things, there will be someday. I took enough sequential photos that it ought to make decent sense even without commentary, but if you've got any questions I can help you out with, let me know. $line ) { echo $line; } ?>/index.php?mode=album&selectedAlbum=dak+tcase+dis%2Fassembly" target="_blank">NP-231 innards

Transmission Cooler Line Leak Fix - I'll write this up when next I have got two minutes to rub together.
